Blankets of Hope

Saddle Rock Student Government representatives recently met to help Blankets of Hope, a nonprofit organization that helps students practice empathy & kindness by donating blankets and handwritten letters to people experiencing homelessness. The students participated in a kindness workshop to first learn about the importance of empathy, then wrote cards and letters of encouragement, which were added to new blankets.

Making Community Connections

At the Great Neck Social Center, a 3rd grade class spent time communicating with senior citizens, all of whom speak Mandarin Chinese and are currently taking classes to learn English. Their goals were to help them practice English while playing games like Uno and Ticket to Ride. Students explained how each game works, guided the seniors step-by-step, and helped them practice English vocabulary throughout. It was a wonderful day of connection, communication, and learning for everyone involved.
